Protesters gathered on Buchanan St in Glasgow and Princes St in Edinburgh, displaying the names of Palestinian children murdered in the recent air strikes on Gaza.

Signatures were collected for an open letter to Scottish Minister of External Affairs and International Development, Humza Yousaf, calling for a strengthening of the Scottish Governments stance on boycott, divestment and sanctions against the state of Israel “to compel it to recognise Palestinian human rights under international law.” The letter was prompted by Yousaf’s statement (May 13th) that the Scottish Government opposes the call from Palestine for boycott, divestment and sanctions against the State of Israel – an apparent U turn after an earlier statement made by First Minister Alex Salmond: “You can’t have normal relationships if you believe another country has been involved in what Israel has been involved in”.

Protesters in Glasgow then marched to the BBC Scotland headquarters to highlight the BBC’s bias coverage of the conflict. During the march demonstrators sat to observe a minute’s silence. Less than two weeks ago 2000 people were estimated to have attended a demonstration at the same site, accusing the publicly funded BBC of bias coverage of the independence referendum.
